I’ve been home for a week now and settling in very nicely I might add. Here’s what I’ve been up to so far.
Piazza-ing
I started back at Piazza on Monday and it feels already like I’ve always been here; it’s so nice to be back working with everyone, and meeting new customers every day.
It’s especially nice when you get to know the customers. So far I’ve encountered people over from Australia and America – visiting on the Waverly Trip, up from several places in England and those just out locally for good food.
I’ve really got back into the swing of things and I’m hoping the summer will bring even more lovely customers. Obviously I’ll need to pop in for some food soon too; just need (as per usual) to decide between the Salmon Linguine (Linguine al salmone) with prawns or the Garlic Chicken (Pollo alla Aglio).
Gutting out and tidying up
I confess, I am a neat freak. I can’t help it; I just need order.
So I gave myself the project this week of gutting out the attic and Dad’s garage. Both are beautiful spaces. They just needed a little bit of TLC.
I think it’s always easier having someone else do the job, as they won’t be a precious about where things should go, how to move things etc. It’s like when I’m having a clothes clear out for eBay – I always get a second opinion on things.
So I got cracking with the garage and now it looks great (if I do say so myself.)
The attic is still a work in progress, as I’m currently sorting through all my Mum and Dad’s old LPs for eBay. Upstairs I also discovered my Grandad’s old typewriter, a vintage Doors t-shirt, and some great old photographs of me when I was younger, my mum and dad and their families too. It was a great clear out! Mum also discovered a vintage kettle for the stove, which I shall be taking back to Glasgow with me in September – thanks Mum.
Seeing friends
I’ve spent most of this week sadly incognito, as I’m a bit short on pennies until tips next week.
However, I’ve still managed to see a few friends on the way to work and am having a few of the girls over this weekend, so can’t complain really.
I’ve also managed to pop and see my Auntie Anne and my Granny, which is great, as living in Glasgow I really don’t see them often enough. It’s been nice spending a bit of time with both of them, and I’ll need to make sure I get to see them just as much over the rest of the Summer. Both of them are very good to me, especially as I’ve done my fair share of raiding Granny’s wardrobe over the years, as she’s kindly lent me some of her dresses from the 70s and 80s, amongst many other things.
Getting the paperwork
Now this is where I gloat a little, so feel free to gloss over this part if you start to feel nauseated.
I got my letter from GSA today with all my grades on it, so here goes. – and, first, this is what the abbreviations mean:
‘Studio’ (60 credits) is worth the most, as it’s my sketchbook work, design development and final pieces.
‘FoCI ‘is my two essays for the year, (20 credits)
‘Design Theory’ (20 credits) is one particular project throughout the year for which we do a PowerPoint presentation.
‘Design Process’ (20 credits) is a written reflection you do on your projects; what you felt went well, could have been improved on etc. Hope that makes sense.

I am so glad that all the work I put in paid off and I couldn’t be more chuffed…I mean what else can I say?
So that’s me at the moment, all settled back in Oban, and looking forward to a busy and fun summer.
